Coming to iMessage

An AI assistant for iMessage, coming soon

Gravel is a personal AI assistant that reads your email and calendar and texts you first. It is coming to iMessage through Apple's official route, and it works in Telegram and WhatsApp during early access.

  3. GravelSwitched. Seat 14C, aisle like you like. Your new boarding pass is in your email.

Is Gravel available in iMessage?

Not yet. Gravel is coming to iMessage, but it needs Apple's approval first. Until then, Gravel works in Telegram and WhatsApp during early access, and you can join the waitlist now.

Apple lets a business run an assistant in Messages only through its official Messages for Business program, and that is the route Gravel will take. Gravel does not use unofficial iMessage relays. They run on a personal Apple ID, break Apple's terms and can get accounts banned without appeal.

Gravel has no date for iMessage yet, so this page makes no promise about when.

What will an AI assistant in iMessage be like?

It will be a thread in the Messages app you already use. There will be no app to install and nothing to learn. You read and reply the way you do with anyone else.

The conversation at the top of this page is an example, recorded in Apple's Messages app to show how Gravel is designed to work. It is not a conversation with a running Gravel. In it, Gravel notices a flight delay, offers an earlier flight and asks "Switch?". The reply is "do it", and Gravel reports back in the same thread. The brands that appear in examples like this are illustrations, not partners.

The way Gravel behaves does not depend on the channel:

  • It reads the email and calendars you connect, notices what needs you, and texts you first.
  • It stays quiet from 10 PM to 7:30 AM by default and sends a few unprompted messages a day at most.
  • Before it acts, it tells you exactly what it will do, and one yes covers the whole plan.
  • It starts read-only, and you choose how much it may do on its own, separately for each kind of action.

Gravel always presents itself as an AI. See how Gravel works for each step.

Can I use Gravel on my iPhone today?

Yes. Gravel works in Telegram and WhatsApp during early access, and both run on iPhone. It is the same assistant with the same memory, approvals and autonomy levels.

You can switch channels at any time with one message. Gravel costs €12 a month, one plan with everything included.

How do I find out when Gravel arrives in iMessage?

Join the waitlist. Gravel is in early access, and you get one email when your spot opens. Nothing else.

When iMessage is ready, this page will say so.

How will Gravel keep my data private in iMessage?

Gravel encrypts your data with a key that belongs to your account only, and it is hosted and processed in the EU, whichever channel you use. Gravel does not train AI models on your data, and neither do its providers.

Messages in iMessage will pass through Apple and a messaging service provider, as Apple's business program requires. Gravel will describe exactly where before iMessage opens.

You can see everything Gravel remembers, as in the example beside this section, and tell it to forget any of it. Export everything with a one-time link, or delete your account and your key is destroyed, so nothing left can be read. More in security.
