# An AI assistant that finds a plumber today

Text Gravel what is broken. It is designed to find two well-rated pros who can come today and book the one you pick.

*Example conversation (Finds a plumber today), recorded in Apple's Messages app:*

> **You:** the kitchen sink is leaking
>
> **Gravel:** Two plumbers rated 4.8★+ can come today: Mike’s Plumbing at 2 PM ($95 visit) or Rapid Rooter at 5 PM ($79). Which one?
>
> **You:** mike’s
>
> **Gravel:** Booked for 2 PM. I’ll text you when he’s on the way.

## Can an AI assistant find and book a plumber?

That's what Gravel is designed for, and the example conversation above shows how it is meant to go. You text “the kitchen sink is leaking.” Gravel replies with two options: “Mike’s Plumbing at 2 PM ($95 visit) or Rapid Rooter at 5 PM ($79).” Both are rated 4.8 stars or higher and can come today. You write “mike’s,” and in the example Gravel books the 2 PM slot.

The request was five words. Your answer was one.

## What should I tell Gravel when something breaks?

Say what is wrong, the way you would tell a friend. “The kitchen sink is leaking” was the entire request. Gravel is designed to work out the rest and come back with choices.

If you have preferences, say them once and Gravel remembers: afternoons only, a budget, a pro you liked before. Ask “what do you know about me?” to see everything it remembers, and change it any time.

## What do I get to choose from?

Two options, not a list of twenty. Each shows the rating, the time it can come and the price of the visit, so you can compare at a glance. In the example that is 2 PM for $95 or 5 PM for $79, both the same day.

Gravel is designed to tell you what it found before it books anything. Pick one by name, as in “mike’s.”

## What happens after I choose?

Gravel is designed to book the slot and tell you it is done. In the example it adds a promise: “I’ll text you when he’s on the way.” The updates are meant to land in the same thread, so there is no extra app to check.

## What stays in my control?

Nothing is booked until you choose. Gravel shows you the options and the prices first, and your pick is the yes. A booking costs money and sends someone to your door, so it stays your decision.

During early access, Gravel may hand you the last step, with the details ready, instead of finishing it itself.

When Gravel acts for you, it presents itself as an AI assistant, never as a person. You also choose how much Gravel may do alone, per kind of action: just do it, only when I ask, ask me first, or hand it to me. It starts read-only. Text “pause” and background work stops.

## What does Gravel need access to?

The messaging app you already use to ask, and your calendar so the visit fits your day. Gravel reads Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, iCloud Calendar and any CalDAV calendar, and it starts read-only.

This example conversation was recorded in Apple's Messages app. During early access Gravel works in [Telegram](https://gravel.chat/telegram) and [WhatsApp](https://gravel.chat/whatsapp), and iMessage is coming. Mike's Plumbing and Rapid Rooter are made up. Gravel has no partnership with any plumber or repair company, and the prices are illustrations. Gravel costs €12 a month; see [pricing](https://gravel.chat/pricing).

## Questions

### Does Gravel have partnerships with plumbers or repair companies?

No. Mike's Plumbing and Rapid Rooter in the example conversation are made up, and Gravel has no partnership with them or with any repair company.

### Will Gravel book a repair without asking me?

No. Gravel is designed to offer two options and book only after you pick one. It tells you what it will do before it acts, and it starts read-only.

### What does a visit cost?

Gravel is designed to show the price of each visit before you choose. The $95 and $79 in the example are illustrations, not Gravel's prices. Gravel itself costs €12 a month.

### Will Gravel keep me posted on the visit?

In the example it says it will text you when the plumber is on the way. The design is that updates come to the same WhatsApp or Telegram thread you used to ask.

### Which messaging apps can I use to ask?

WhatsApp and Telegram during early access. iMessage is coming.
