# An AI assistant that fixes calendar conflicts

When a meeting moves and clashes with something else, Gravel texts you first, proposes a fix and does every step after one yes.

*Example conversation (Moves an appointment with one yes), recorded in Apple's Messages app:*

> **Gravel:** Want me to move the dentist to Thursday at 3:30? I’d cancel Tuesday, book Thursday and update your calendar.
>
> **You:** yes
>
> **Gravel:** Done. Thursday at 3:30 PM with Dr. Lee. It’s on your calendar.

## Can an AI assistant fix a calendar conflict?

Yes. Moving an appointment is what Gravel is built for. When a meeting moves and now clashes with something else, Gravel notices, proposes a fix and does every step after one yes. Here is the case from the home-page demo, an example conversation:

> **Gravel:** Morning! Your 10:00 with Maya moved to 10:30, so it now clashes with the dentist.
>
> **Gravel:** Want me to move the dentist to Thursday afternoon? You usually prefer those.
>
> **You:** yes please
>
> **Gravel:** Done. Thursday at 3:30 PM, and the confirmation is in your inbox.

## How does Gravel spot a clash?

Gravel reads your calendar and checks the next seven days for events that overlap. A meeting that moves is the usual trigger: when the 10:00 became 10:30, it landed on top of the dentist.

Very long blocks, over four hours, do not count as clashes, so an all-day event does not trigger a text. When Gravel finds a real clash it texts you, and it respects quiet hours, 10 PM to 7:30 AM by default.

## What does one yes cover?

The whole plan. In the example conversation above, Gravel spells it out first: “I’d cancel Tuesday, book Thursday and update your calendar.” You say “yes,” and all three steps happen. Then it tells you it is done: “Thursday at 3:30 PM with Dr. Lee. It’s on your calendar.” You approve the plan once instead of three times.

It offers Thursday afternoon because it remembers you prefer afternoon appointments. Ask “what do you know about me?” to see what it has stored, and tell it to forget or change anything.

## What else does Gravel do with my calendar?

Gravel puts what it knows about your calendar to work in four more ways:

- **Morning brief.** Today's agenda goes into the short morning brief.
- **Meeting prep.** Between 45 and 90 minutes before a meeting with someone who has emailed you in the last 30 days, Gravel can text you what they last wrote.
- **Quiet in meetings.** Messages that can wait hold until the meeting ends.
- **Routines.** A weekly event Gravel has seen in three different weeks becomes a routine it knows about.

## What stays in my control?

Moving an appointment cancels one booking and makes another, and Gravel checks with you before it cancels anything. It tells you the full plan and waits for your yes.

You choose how much more it may do, per kind of action: just do it, only when I ask, ask me first, or hand it to me. Gravel starts read-only. For calendar entries without guests it can also earn more freedom: after you approve the same kind of change several times, it can offer to stop asking, then do it alone with a short undo window and a receipt. An edit, an undo or a complaint takes that freedom back. See [autonomy levels](https://gravel.chat/learn/autonomy-levels).

## What does Gravel need access to?

Your calendar and the email that holds your confirmations. Gravel reads Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, iCloud Calendar and any CalDAV calendar. For email it reads Gmail and Outlook (you sign in with Google or Microsoft), plus iCloud Mail, GMX, WEB.DE, T-Online, freenet, mailbox.org, Posteo and other IMAP mailboxes with an app password.

Access starts read-only. The first time an action needs to change something, like adding an entry to your calendar, Gravel asks for that permission and comes back with the confirmation. See [integrations](https://gravel.chat/integrations).

These example conversations were recorded in Apple's Messages app. Dr. Lee is made up, and Gravel has no partnership with any dentist or clinic. During early access Gravel works in WhatsApp and Telegram, and iMessage is coming. Gravel costs €12 a month.

## Questions

### Does Gravel move my meetings without asking?

Not by default. Gravel tells you exactly what it will do and waits for your yes, and one yes covers the whole plan. It checks with you before it cancels anything.

### Which calendars does Gravel work with?

Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar, iCloud Calendar and any CalDAV calendar.

### Can Gravel reschedule an appointment with someone else, like a dentist?

In the example conversation it does: after one yes it cancels Tuesday, books Thursday and updates the calendar. Dr. Lee is made up, and Gravel has no partnership with any clinic.

### Will Gravel interrupt me during a meeting?

Messages that can wait hold until the meeting ends. Gravel also keeps quiet hours, 10 PM to 7:30 AM by default, and sends at most a few unprompted messages a day.

### How does Gravel know I prefer afternoon appointments?

It remembers your preferences. Ask “what do you know about me?” to see them, and tell Gravel to change or forget anything.
